Ward Road attempts to create a depot in the early days of BR diesels. As usual, the period is reasonably flexible but endeavours to cover the age prior to the introduction of the TOPs codes.

The depot is supposed to be built around a secondary main line that has now been abandoned - the original through tracks used to disappear at the tunnel mouth at the right hand end of the layout as seen by the viewer. The old steam shed - now minus its roof - has been converted for the servicing of diesel multiple units. Facilities provided on the depot include the normal fuelling area, a servicing shed where running repairs can be carried out, a heavy repair shop and plenty of siding space for 'stabling' locos.

Locos will arrive on the depot for fuelling and then be moved to a 'stabling' point. Most locos, when leaving the depot, will pass through the washing plant before departing off the layout to commence their operating duty.

The depot will hold around 60 diesel locos at any time, but the normal operating sequence allows about 40 on the depot out of around 130 available for use - including most of the prototype BR diesels.

We have now disposed of Ward Road
