Penruddock: OO Gauge

By Andy Hudson & others

This is a small private project undertaken by members of the 00 Group, led by Andy Hudson, ably assisted by other members working together to produce a new short end to end layout.  For some members this will be the first time they will have built a layout at the club, giving them the opportunity to showcase their abilities.  We have no intention of exhibiting this layout, it will be purely a training aid to gain further experience before taking on a bigger project, later in the year.

Penruddock Railway Station was situated on the Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway between Penrith and Cockermouth in Cumbria.  The station served the village of Penruddock for passenger traffic from the 2nd January 1865, and closed on the 6th March 1972.

This is our interpretation of what we think Penruddock Station could look like, if the Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith Railway reopened.  We have elevated the track bed to allow the railway to pass over roads and the river to the west of the village, the old Station is now a small housing estate, so we have located the station further north of the village.

As you will see in the pictures we have built the baseboards from scrap off cuts of MDF with pine softwood batons, we also used MDF for the track bed and supports.  All the track is Peco code 100 currently being wired up as a DC layout.  The buildings are a mixture of Bachmann, Scenecraft, Knightwing and Ratio kit built models.
