“Oldbury Pearsall Street” is the provisional name of a new exhibition layout being built by members of the O-Gauge Group. The drawing above is a working diagram of the track plan; for convenience it has been drawn straight, but the actual layout will be built in a gentle curve, which (we hope) will enhance its visual appeal. The design represents a small twin track terminus on a somewhat restricted site. It includes a small goods yard and a siding serving an industrial facility. The latter was originally conceived as a creamery or dairy, but in recognition of some of the team members’ interests may well end up as a brewery.
The off stage “fiddle yard” arrangement has been developed from an idea used by one of the team on his own exhibition layout. It consists of a traverser and turntable which can be moved independently, together with a series of storage roads for additional locomotives. The industrial unit masks the fiddle yard so that almost the whole 9.8 metre length of the layout will be scenic.
As well as the obvious reference to the address of the club room, the name suggests a secondary station in a location which is also served by a larger one. However, the name, and indeed many of the other features of the layout may change as construction proceeds.
At the time of writing (July 2016) we have a pile of laser cut plywood baseboard sections, some drawer runners, a “Lazy Susan” bearing and a big box of nuts, bolts, screws, etc. All we have to do now is to build it!
The Wednesday O gauge group is always prepared to accept any member who feels he would like to be involved, so this could be your chance to come along and find out more - both about the club and modelling in 7mm/ft.
