This layout used to be the locomotive works for the Kirtley Valley Railroad in steam days. Time has moved on to the diesel era. The workshops have gone, although the water tower remains, and factories have taken their place. The layout now represents a spur off the main line.
This layout was kindly donated to the club by Pete Smith and had some small track changes made to turn it into a small yard serving two factories. It was intended that facilities for passengers would also be built, but never were.
The stock used is primarily 1:29 American but European stock will also be run if desired by the operators. The factory units were constructed during 2008 with a view to have the layout ready for the NEC 2009 exhibition.
The layout was originally built as a “portable” layout -
