Hadley Junction

By Paul Jones

My new project is Hadley Junction which continues my theme of the railways of West Gloucestershire, and the Forest of Dean in particular, modelled during the mid ’30’s when operated by the Great Western Railway. This follows on from my now dismantled layout Hadley Road. The new layout is inspired by Awre Junction which was on the Gloucester to Severn Tunnel Junction main line (former South Wales Railway) between Newnham and Lydney. The prototype included a branch running to Blakeney. This should give me the opportunity to run some main line trains and a selection of branch traffic from the coalfields and other industries of the Forest of Dean. Some research has been undertaken as to train formations etc. but there is a lot more to do!

To date the dedicated railway room has been built and the baseboards are on order and are awaited. The internal dimensions of the room are 6m X 5m -a large space but only just about sufficient for a small O gauge junction. It is hoped that there will be good progress on the project during the autumn and winter of this year.
